Ischemic heart disease develops when the myocardium is not supplied with enough blood due to atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries. Cholesterol plaques narrow the lumen of the vessels, disrupting the delivery of oxygen to the heart muscle. This manifests itself as angina pectoris - chest pain during physical exertion. Acute occlusion of a coronary artery by a thrombus leads to myocardial infarction, or necrosis of a section of the heart muscle. Arginine is a conditionally essential amino acid that is the only substrate for the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO), a key signalling molecule in the cardiovascular system. Nitric oxide relaxes the smooth muscle of blood vessels, causing vasodilation and lowering blood pressure. It improves endothelial function - endothelial dysfunction is an early marker of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. NO prevents platelet aggregation and leukocyte adhesion to the vascular wall, reducing the risk of thrombosis and inflammation. In ischaemic heart disease, hypertension, and atherosclerosis, nitric oxide synthesis is impaired - arginine supplementation helps to restore its production.

Taurine is a sulphur-containing amino acid with multiple cardioprotective effects. The heart muscle contains high concentrations of taurine. It regulates intracellular calcium, which is necessary for myocardial contraction, and prevents calcium overload, which can lead to arrhythmias and cardiomyocyte death. Taurine has a powerful antioxidant effect, protecting the myocardium from oxidative stress during ischaemia. It stabilises cell membranes, improves energy metabolism in mitochondria, and lowers blood pressure. Clinical studies show that taurine reduces the frequency of extrasystoles and other arrhythmias and improves myocardial contractility in heart failure.

Dihydroquercetin (DHQ) is a bioflavonoid from Siberian larch with unique angioprotective properties. It has a powerful antioxidant effect, protecting the vascular endothelium from oxidative damage. DHQ strengthens the vascular wall, reduces its permeability, and increases the elasticity of arteries and capillaries. It improves the rheological properties of blood, reducing viscosity and preventing the aggregation of erythrocytes and thrombocytes, thereby improving blood flow and microcirculation. DKV also lowers LDL cholesterol levels and prevents its oxidation, a key stage in the development of atherosclerotic plaques.

Hawthorn fruit extract contains cardiotonic glycosides, flavonoids (vitexin, hyperoside) and procyanidins. Hawthorn improves coronary blood flow, increasing oxygen delivery to the myocardium, which increases its resistance to ischaemia. White willow bark extract contains salicin, a natural precursor to aspirin. Salicin has an antiplatelet effect, reducing the ability of platelets to stick together and form blood clots. Salicin also has an anti-inflammatory effect, reducing chronic inflammation in the vascular wall, one of the key factors in atherosclerosis.

Nettle extract is rich in vitamin K, which is involved in blood clotting, but in combination with antiplatelet agents, it provides balance - preventing both excessive thrombus formation and bleeding.
